I love Dewalt and I love this saw. I still have it. It cuts very well, and is high quality, except for... the safety guard and components. I had some tall pieces to cut, so took off the plastic blade guard but left the rip fence guard in place. The rip fence is the curved serrated piece that is positioned just behind the saw blade. The rip fence metal guard attaches to the rip fence and shields it. I made very sure that all guards were firmly secured before starting to saw wood.

I cut some wood. On the second cut, the rip fence metal guard flew off the saw and hit me in the chest - boom!
Fortunately, I had on goggles, dust mask, and hearing protection. My chest really hurt. I thought I had not secured this well, so rechecked everything, referenced the manual, rechecked again. All good.
Started up the saw again. Boom! Another flying missile in my chest again!!! Unbelievable.
I called up Dewalt and got a huge run around. I was pretty mad. $400 of goods and I get assaulted by it.
What is going to happen now, is that the Attorney General is going to hear about it. So is the FTC. And my attorney. Dewalt is going to talk to me, apologize, pay me something for the injuries, and fix my saw problem or refund my money.
This is a manufacturing problem that goes beyond the seller, but hopefully the seller is now aware.
If you buy this, wear some protection, and try to test it out standing to the side with the guard on, then off. When the plastic guard is on, nothing comes off. When you take the plastic guard off, but leave the rip fence guard on, you have this issue. In the manual however, you can do this. So it is a defect. Be careful. If this happens to you, please contact me.
This is likely the best saw out there for the money, but there are already enough glowingly positive reviews out there so I'll mention some issues.

1. Only about 10% of the dust actually goes out the exhaust port. The rest builds up underneath the unit.

2. There's no nice flat surface under the table, where you might apply a clamp (say, for holding a featherboard). I had to go with a long clamp — as long as the table is high — anchored to the 1" tubular steel frame.

3. The miter gauge isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. But you do need to attach an auxiliary fence to it (there's one hole for your screw, but be careful as the gauge is plastic) as applying a clamp to the gauge directly tends to lift it.
This is an excellent saw, but I was forced to return it, and its replacement, for virtually the same problem. After a few days of use, the blade raising and lower mechanism starting grinding and binding, became difficult to turn, not smooth, sudden drops, etc and increasing got worst with each use.
Assuming this was a fluke, returned it for a replacement. The replacement worked fine for a couple of days, and then started developing the identical problem. Really disappointed at this turn of events as I really liked the saw, but forced to return again. Reassessing DeWalt quality control ... The odds of 2 saws having the same problem are pretty low, unless there is a QC problem causing the misalignment to develop so quickly. Amazon return policy and procedures have been Great ... Not sure which saw to get at this point ...
This is a great table saw. Have it sitting flush with my workbench so I can run full sheets through it. All of the parts are good quality and haven't had any malfunctions after 2 months of use. The ONLY complaint I have is there is no easy fitting you can get with a shop vac for dust collection. I understand this is a portable table saw, but come on. There's got to be an easier way to attach a hose to these dewalt products. And after researching I still haven't found an adapter that goes with it out of the box. Every solution I've seen is something custom made. Makes no sense to me.
Absolutely delighted with this saw! I had a great old Craftsman table saw for 20 years--solid as can be, but heavy as an anvil. If I had a barn or large workshop to store it in, I would have kept it. But we just have an ordinary garage and I had to store the heavy, cast-iron beast partially disassembled in an inconvenient spot. Which meant that I rarely bothered to pull it out and reassemble it. On most occasions when I really should have used it, I tended to make do with some less appropriate saw just to avoid the hassle.
I finally "saw" the light, sold the old Craftsman and purchased the DW745. Although my tool-geek side preferred one of the larger, more powerful models (e.g. DW7480), I disciplined myself to purchase the model that realistically fits my actual needs--and has the small size and lighter weight objectively fit my situation. The rack and pinyon fence system is my favorite feature, but I like almost everything about it. My only complaint is how difficult access to the screws is to adjust the riving knife. However that is not often required. BTW, I built a small "break-down-able" stand for this saw so that it stands solidly at the exact height I prefer when I use it. It cost half the price of the "official" De Walt stand for this saw and is customized to my needs. Plus it was fun to use the saw to build its own stand!
